Meet Brian

Brian Riepe is the founder and publisher of Mountain Flyer magazine, a premier print publication dedicated to celebrating the gritty spirit of mountain biking and outdoor culture. Raised in the weathered landscape of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Brian's appreciation for the outdoors began as a young man. Surrounded by mesas, canyons and mountains, he embraced activities like backpacking, rock climbing, skiing and cycling, which instilled a lifelong passion for exploring and led to a fascination with earth’s natural processes.

Brian’s academic journey took him to Colorado State University, where he initially studied geology and hydrology. Later, he shifted his focus to business administration, combining his analytical mindset with a drive for entrepreneurship. This blend of skills ultimately led to the creation of Mountain Flyer, a magazine that became a cornerstone in the cycling community by balancing stories of adventure and innovation with a deep respect for nature.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Brian continues to live a life rooted in the outdoors. He also enjoys riding horses, stand-up paddleboarding on rivers, skiing, and climbing peaks, activities that keep him grounded and inspired. Brian shares his adventurous spirit with his wife of 24 years and teenage daughter.

After 20 years in the publishing business, Brian joined Forever Our Rivers in December 2024. As an advocate for environmental stewardship, Brian brings his entrepreneurial spirit and profound connection to the outdoors to the organization. His work supports initiatives that protect vital waterways, ensuring they remain vibrant, accessible and sustainable for future generations of adventurers, wildlife, and communities.

Brian and his family share their home and life pursuits with three dogs, two horses and most recently, a pet wooly bear caterpillar. Whether he's writing a story for Forever Our Rivers, spending time with his family, or exploring the outdoors, Brian strives to create harmony between passion, work and play.
